Charity Partner
Providing support to community health workers with our 1%s this month will work to change thousands of lives. With our new charity partner Living Goods, community health promotors are trained and provided with the infrastructure to bring positive health and economic impact to their communities. Through an 'avon lady' model, Living Goods supports a network of health entrepreneurs who go door to door in their communities, providing products to improve families health, and with simple interventions, help families save money too. This works on a number of levels, combining the best practices from business and public health. Its a smart model. Child mortality can be dramatically reduced while providing livelihoods to thousands of enterprising women. Our grant to Living Goods will impact a minimum of 5,000 people in Uganda and Kenya by enabling Living Goods to recruit, train, and support 5 Community Health Promoters. Thats another person reached for every £1.32 we donate. Living Goods Community Health Promoters diagnose, treat, and help prevent childhood illness, provide healthy pregnancy education and access to family planning products, improve maternal and child nutrition, and bring money saving products like solar lights and efficient cook stoves to the doorsteps of those who need them most. At 1%HQ we're really excited by this new partnership. You can find out more about Living Goods impressive work here

Living Goods saves lives at scale by supporting digitally empowered community health workers (CHWs) who deliver care on call – making it easy for families in need to get the care they need. Living Goods-support CHWs focus on where they can make the biggest impact at the lowest cost: treating preventable diseases in children (such as malaria, pneumonia or diarrhea), supporting pregnant women, offering family planning services, and providing immunization referrals. By equipping CHWs with the tools and compensation they need, Living Goods is lowering child mortality, ensuring safe birth practices, and providing opportunities to women. As a GiveWell Standout Charity since 2014 and a The Life You Can Save Recommended Charity since 2015, our work is externally validated to be effective and impactful. Living Goods works with local and national governments in sub-Saharan Africa to develop and improve community health programs, working towards sustainability.
