Our November 1% will be our second donation this year to Mary’s Meals.
We have a commitment with Mary’s Meals to sponsor 3 of their schools every year. We smashed our fundraising target in April (thanks to Simon and Oscar from Ocean Colour Scene) raising enough to feed those 744 pupils plus another 205 children every day. That means everything donated this month will be icing on the cake and we can expect an additional 470 children to be given lunch with our 1%.
This simple daily meal is positive for the children on many levels. Our funding means the children don’t have to choose between food and learning. The promise of a meal helps improve attendance, reduces distraction through hunger, improves health and nutrition and in turn improves learning and test results.
Mary’s Meals is an international movement that sets up school feeding projects in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. The charity now feeds over 2.4 million children every school day and it costs just £19.15 to feed a child for a school year.
