This month we will expand our support of small business with Deki. Deki empowers people living in poverty to create sustainable livelihoods by providing access to ethical microloans and training, currently Deki works in Malawi, Ghana and South Sudan. The loans averaging £200 are used to create a sustainable income. For example, Deki loans have been used to purchase sewing machines to create small tailoring businesses, to buy water pumps to increase farmer’s yields and to buy better stock for local restaurants or stores. 100% of the money raised in September will be lent to people living in poverty to start up their own small businesses. As the loans are repaid we will re-lend the funds to more families, therefore over the next two years months the loans will have been lent out and re-paid approximately 3.3 times. This will support families to set up business and work their way out of poverty, positively impacting upwards of 1500 people.
