Mary’s Meals have been given the gold standard for all organisations distributing food to children in Liberia and Malawi thanks to their swift response in ensuring the kids relying on their meals didn’t go hungry when Covid-19 shut their schools. Within 4-6 weeks, they were able to adapt to the new situation and were back to feeding over 1.6 children by distributing parcels directly to homes, village collection points or to parents at schools.
We sponsor children across 3 schools within the programme so it’s reassuring to know that, though their classrooms have been closed, their bellies won’t have be empty.
Our September 1% is our second month of fundraising for them this year. There’s 760 children in total in the schools we sponsor and because we’ve exceeded our target, we’ll sponsor another 150 children this year as well.
Mary’s Meals is an international movement that sets up school feeding projects in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. The charity now feeds over 2.4 million children every school day and it costs just £19.15 to feed a child for a school year.
