Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI) at Imperial College London have made it their mission to eliminate schistosomiasis across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The deadly tropical disease is among a handful of parasitic and bacterial infections threatening 836 million children worldwide. Without treatment, these kids could die or suffer a lifetime of disabilities and severe pain. Treating them, as well as efforts to improve nutrition, education and economic productivity (the pillars of our 1% projects) is the secret to ending extreme poverty.
£1 treats 3 people. In six years working together we’ve funded treatment for 63,514 children and at-risk adults. Want to see what this treatment looks like? Take a 360° tour of an SCI treatment programme in Cote d’Ivoire
